Joshua Axelrod

Following my heart and love of the wild, at the age of 15, I went off to hike and explore 600 miles of the Northern Appalachians, through day and night, rain and sunshine, where I inspired and developed the values I hold to this day.

Using 35mm photographic equipment, Joshua works with the natural world to create original fine art photographs. Focusing on the natural form of a subject, he integrates pattern, light and motion, often creating impressionistic, surreal and abstract pieces. He uses wind, light shadow and depth to create images on traditional film.

Additionally to using light and weather in different ways, Joshua uses double exposures and can be found sandwiching two transparencies. He uses transparency film for his color work and negatives for black and white. Joshua builds all his frames from antique salvaged woods
