Artist Statement:
I love the beauty and functionality of stoneware. In addition to its sturdiness, it is perfect for embellishment. The shapes and colors of my pottery echo what I see in the gardens and woods around my home.

Elizabeth earned a degree in studio art and art history at the University of Vermont in 1977. From a young age she was drawn to crafts of all kinds. When she discovered the ceramics studio at UVM, she was attracted by the rhythms and cycles of throwing, glazing, and firing. Elizabeth loves the beauty and functionality of stoneware. In addition to its sturdiness, it is perfect for embellishment. The shapes and colors of her pottery echo what she sees in the gardens and woods around her home in Lincoln, Vermont. Elizabeth founded York Hill Pottery in 1979 and was joined in 1990 by fellow artist Susan Kuehnl, whom she had met at UVM.
