RONI OMOHUNDRO
SHELBURNE, VERMONT
As far back as she can recall, Roni Omohundro has experienced great pleasure in creating art. It seemed a natural choice to pursue that joy as a career path. Having earned her B.F.A. degree at the Philadelphia College of Art with a major in Fibre Design and a minor in Painting, Roni continued her quest to sustain herself with her art. As a weaver, she would demonstrate at local craft fairs and teach interested students. Roni and another fibre artist opened a small gallery in Hopewell, New Jersey.
Roni eventually found herself living in Brooklyn, New York, where her second bedroom was home to her weaving studio. She matriculated at New York University, earning an M.A. degree in Art Therapy. Beyond this, she met the requirements and became registered as an Art Therapist, worked in the mental health clinic which was part of the Staten Island Hospital in New York.
Feeling a call toward art education, Roni taught children from K- 4th grades in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. For 25 years, Roni worked in the same district until she retired in 2014. Using her fiber weaving experience as a means to expand to bead weaving, Roni created her jewelry both on and off the loom. Her work was exhibited and sold at various New Jersey art galleries. She had a steady clientele who commissioned her for custom pieces. Roni moved to Vermont in 2019. Presently, her jewelry can be seen at the ArtHound Gallery in Essex as well as the Frog Hollow Gallery in Burlington.
