Having never thought of himself as “artistic,” Ethan Quillen committed his talents instead to academic pursuits, earning a few Master’s degrees, an MBA, and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. And then, like so many others seeking solace during Covid isolation, he too found himself captivated by potters making pots, online, as well as on a certain British-based pottery-themed competition show. So, in January 2022, after his wife dragged him to an intro to wheel-throwing class to “try it for ourselves,” it isn’t all that surprising that he quickly became obsessed with all things clay. He soon after quit his silly marketing job and began exploring the world of ceramic arts full-time. His pots are inspired by nature, and the beautiful harmony that can be found in contrasting textures, colors, and shapes.
