Embracing the Ephemeral

Anna Yakubovskaya

April 29th - May 30th

Artist Reception & Silk Painting Demonstration: May 11th 2-5pm

Join us for an exploration of the beauty of the North East through the eyes of artist Anna Yakubovskaya, of Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. This exhibition showcases her reflections on the state, captured on both silk and paper.

Yakubovskaya honed her skills at the prestigious Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design in Saint Petersburg before moving to the United States in 1997. Most recently, she relocated to Vermont in 2021, immersing herself in the natural world that inspires her art. Since moving to Vermont, Anna has been captivated by the tranquility of nature. From her very first summer, the vibrant forests and blooming flowers have deepened her appreciation for the verdant landscape.  Each experience of hers is a gentle reminder that this is her home, not a fleeting vacation.

Yakubovskaya ‘s work thrives in the delicate balance between control and spontaneity. Her use of watercolors and silk painting requires a certain fearlessness and trust in her hands and how they manipulate her medium. This skill allows her to explore the intricacies of the natural environment, and how she inhabits it.
Vermont’s nature, however, presents its own challenges.  Anna fully immerses herself into the state’s beauty year-round, especially in the winter. “But I love to hike, and the challenges to it –” Anna says, “When I am in nature, I want to paint it. This is seen in my landscape paintings. I can’t paint something I haven’t personally experienced. I need to see and feel it first.”

Her stunning creations are brought to life through watercolors on either paper or silk. Anna utilizes both plein air techniques, painting directly in nature, and studio work based on her detailed reference photos.
