Arched Vistas of New England

Brian Hewitt

May 31st - June 27th

Burlington Vermont – Art enthusiasts are invited to step into the vibrant and whimsical world of Brian Hewitt in Frog Hollow’s exhibition Arched Vistas of New England. Hewitt, and his signature style, promise an exhibition that is “just fun,” highlighting a series of beloved paintings and reproductions over the past few years.

Brian Hewitt’s hallmark is a distinctive style characterized by deep contrasts, dynamic colors, and realistic cloudscapes– “I put enormous effort into the sky, and I think it sets the stage for the rest of the painting.” Building depth within each piece by employing layers of paint and fine details, the resulting works can take between six and eight weeks to complete. Whether you’re drawn to his creative technique or iconic landscapes, this exhibition offers the opportunity to experience Hewitt’s artistry firsthand. He continues to experiment with new and traditional art practices along with his signature “arc” style.

Brian Hewitt is a self-taught artist who has been working full-time in his adopted trade since 2011.  While “between jobs” and caring for his father, he found himself with more time to apply himself to painting.  “I had no plans of being an artist, I thought I would get my father through the winter and go back into marketing.  But I did a few pieces and got the interest of a couple of galleries and got the bug.”

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised on a dairy farm, Brian is no stranger to Vermont’s rural terrain. Upon graduating from UVM he landed in several cities including DC, Manhattan and San Francisco. He then lived on the coast of Maine for 12 years. Inspired by Maine’s rich art history and the artists that call Maine home, it planted the proverbial seed– “The light and water in Maine makes it hard not to be inspired.” Brian continues to paint New England scenescapes, primarily Acadia National Park in Maine and all throughout Vermont.

Brian currently sells both originals and reproductions at Shaw Gallery in Northeast Harbor, Maine, and several galleries across Vermont including ArtHound Gallery in Essex, Artisans’ Gallery in Essex Junction, Northwood Gallery in Stowe, 3 Pears Gallery in Dorset, Rock Art Brewery in Morriston, Liquid Art in Killington, and Frog Hollow Craft Gallery in Burlington.
