EUFLORIA

Watercolors by Annelein Beukenkamp with Glass by Janet Zug

May 5th - June 1st

Beginning May 5th, Frog Hollow Craft Association and Gallery will exhibit “EUFLORIA”, a show of watercolors and vases featuring recent work by painter Annelein Beukenkamp and glass blower Janet Zug, who are both Gallery Members. The show, which includes floral watercolors and glass vases, showcases color and translucency through fluid materials.

Annelein’s work has been described as bold, bright, joyful and happy and features a wide variety of flowers as inspiration. The layers of colors and numerous glazes are a part of her technique that achieves glow and depth placing her blossoms in a rich environment. The range of values enhance the play of lights and darks giving the viewer a full spectrum of beautiful color to observe in these floral portraits. Bouquets and flower gardens enrich our lives with natural beauty and Annelein strives to capture a moment in time when life is in full bloom.

Her watercolors have been exhibited widely, won numerous awards and have been featured in several art publications. Annelein is also a popular workshop teacher and has provided inspiration to many artists over the years. Annelein will be in the gallery Saturday May 27 to conduct a demonstration, followed by a meet and greet where she will be available to answer any questions about her show. The show closes June 1st.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Watercolor is the fluid and sometimes unpredictable medium that will forever fascinate Annelein. She has painted with this colorful medium for three decades and continues to try and harness its pigments into a balanced painting consisting of hard and soft edges, bright and neutral hues, bold and subtle shapes and loose and tight brushstrokes. Florals have been an important subject throughout the years for Annelein and reflect proudly back to her Dutch roots. She has painted many different varieties of blossoms and blooms in a kaleidoscopic array of colors that capture a flower’s essence and impressionistic representation. Watercolor can surprise, delight, frustrate and intimidate, but mostly it inspires her to dip into my palette and translate what she sees into what has been described by collectors as happy, fun and joyful work.
